Job summary

Smith's Food & Drug Centers is seeking an Assistant Department Manager to support the Grocery Department in planning, organizing and directing staff and daily operations. You will help with staffing, training, pricing, merchandising and customer service to ensure safe, friendly shopping experiences.

You will use Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) to manage stock levels, supervise associates, uphold company policies, and drive friendly, efficient service while meeting budget goals and company

Qualifications

• Willing to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights as needed.
• Willing to work weekends and holidays.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to make quick intelligent decisions.
• Handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
• Experience in production, merchandising and customer service.
• Knowledge of department operations (people, merchandising, CAO, inventory, shrink, scheduling, etc.).
• Knowledge of employment laws and OSHA compliance.
• Able to operate power machinery and work with various job tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Department Manager in organizing work, filling staffing needs, and training and scheduling associates for prompt courteous service.
• Respond to customer or associate comments, complaints, requests, accidents and questions; be prompt, tactful, calm, courteous and professional.
• Use Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) to manage ordering and balance on hand in the Department Manager's absence.
• Perform and direct pricing and display of merchandise; maintain signage, rotation, freshness, quantity, quality and space allocation.
• Engage and counsel associates in effective merchandising, customer service, product presentation and promotional activities.
• Follow company programs and policies, including dress code, grooming, sanitation and a safe work environment free of harassment or discrimination.
• Provide Department Manager with input on department budgets, goals and results.
• Communicate with associates and customers to provide a positive impression.
• Maintain equipment and facilities safely and properly per company policies.
• Maintain floor, shelf and grocery areas clean and sanitary.
• Promote company initiatives and process improvements to direct reports.
• Demonstrate aptitude to manage people and workloads.
• Perform any duties as assigned.
