Job summary

Safeway is seeking a Grocery Manager to assist the Assistant Store Director in directing Grocery Department operations, including supervising staff, ordering, receiving, pricing and merchandising. In the absence of store leadership, you may direct the store operations and front-end functions.

The role requires strong leadership, a solid retail background, and excellent customer service skills, with a focus on policy compliance and safety.

Qualifications

• Extensive retail background with prior management experience.
• Thorough understanding of company practices, policies and procedures.
• Strong written and oral communication, leadership and interpersonal skills; proven ability to manage and develop people.
• Ability to supervise employees and work with little supervision.
• Knowledge of employment laws and workplace practices.

Responsibilities

• Champions customer service programs to meet division goals and resolve customer complaints.
• Performs ordering, receiving, pricing, stocking and merchandising in the Grocery Department and front end; assists in daily operations planning.
• May act as back-up cashier and use suggestive selling techniques.
• Responsible for cash handling, tapes and money orders; monitors and controls cash handling procedures.
• Prepares to-do lists for stockers, closes out discontinued items and implements price changes; controls shrink and prevents sale of out-of-code items.
• Opens and closes the store; ensures compliance with sanitation, safety, and policy procedures.
