Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Checker in the Grocery department to operate the register, assist customers, and help ensure every visit ends on a great note. You will handle payments, follow guidelines, and support store promotions while maintaining customer satisfaction.

No formal education or experience is required; comprehensive training will be provided to succeed in a fast-paced retail environment.

Qualifications

• No formal education or prior experience required; training provided.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers with a smile and provide prompt, friendly service.
• Operate the cash register and process payments (cash, checks, cards, coupons, WIC, etc.).
• Count back change and issue receipts; handle refunds or credits as needed.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines (WIC, food stamps, tobacco, liquor, lottery).
• Assist customers and help with store directions, displays, and promotions.
• Stay informed on item numbers, prices, and weekly deals; assist with shelf stocking and merchandising.
• Maintain clean register area and report cash discrepancies.
• Verify register balances at shift start and end when required.
• Communicate clearly by intercom/phone and respond to inquiries.
• Be aware of surroundings to support store safety and security.”
• Assist in other areas of the store and participate in special projects.
