Position: Machine Operator

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Employment Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Production Supervisor

Job Summary

The Machine Operator will operate precision grinding machines, including CNC grinders, surface grinders, and cylindrical grinders, to produce high-precision components that meet stringent quality standards. This role requires technical expertise, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Machine Operation: Set up, operate, and monitor precision grinding machines (e.g., CNC grinders, surface grinders, cylindrical grinders) to produce parts according to blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  2. Quality Control: Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, CMM) to ensure compliance with tolerances and quality standards.
  3. Tooling and Setup: Select and install appropriate grinding wheels, fixtures, and tooling; adjust machine settings to achieve desired results.
  4. Maintenance: Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, and identifying potential mechanical issues to ensure optimal performance.
  5. Documentation: Record production data, including quantities produced, machine settings, and inspection results, in accordance with company procedures.
  6. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of materials and equipment.
  7. Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with team members to identify process improvements, reduce waste, and enhance production efficiency.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certification in machining or precision grinding.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience operating precision grinding machines or similar CNC machinery in a manufacturing environment.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical blueprints and engineering drawings.
    • Familiarity with precision measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, dial indicators).
    • Basic understanding of CNC programming and G-code is a plus.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Effective communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Additional Qualifications
  • Experience in aerospace or medical device manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles or Six Sigma methodologies.
