Job summary

Nexus Disposal is hiring in Houston, TX for a warehouse-based role involving grinding, polishing, and painting duties. You will handle surface prep, tool operation, and finish applications in a shop setting.

Requirements include HS diploma or GED, ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and a background check with drug screening. Schedule is Mon-Fri with some Saturdays; pay ranges from $16.00 to $18.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Grind, sand, clean or polish waste dumpsters or parts to prep surfaces.
• Select files or abrasives according to work specs.
• Measure and mark equipment to meet standards.
• Inspect finished work against templates and specs.
• Record data on forms and transfer items between areas.
• Apply solutions and chemicals with hand tools.
• Repair and maintain equipment using hand tools.
• Operate blasting and painting tools as needed.
• Paint, coat, and finish surfaces per instructions.
• Scrape, sand, prime, or seal surfaces before painting.

Job Schedule: Monday Friday, Saturdays as needed

Job Shift: 7:00AM 4:00PM

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00

Grinding Duties and Responsibilities

• Grind, sand, clean, or polish waste dumpsters or parts to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for further finishing, using hand tools and power tools.
• Select files or other abrasives, according to materials, sizes and shapes of work pieces, amount of stock to be removed, finishes specified, and steps in finishing process.
• Measure and mark equipment, objects, or parts to ensure grinding and polishing standards are met.
• Verify quality of finished work pieces by inspection, comparison to templates, measuring their dimensions, or testing work pieces in working machinery.
• Record product and processing data on specified forms.
• Transfer equipment, objects, or parts to specified work areas, using moving devices.
• Apply solutions and chemicals to equipment, objects, or parts using hand tools.
• Repair and maintain equipment, objects, or parts using hand tools.
• Sharpen abrasive grinding tools, using machines and hand tools.
• File grooved, contoured, and irregular surfaces of metal objects, such as metal working dies and machine parts, to conform to templates, other parts, layouts, or blueprint specifications.
• Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torches, straightening presses, and hand tools.
• Hammer out bulges or bends in metal work pieces.

Painting Duties and Responsibilities

• Selecting and mixing coating paints to desired color and prepare spraying equipment such as cleaning or adjusting spray guns.
• Willingness to take direction from area lead and follow that direction and to be a self-starter when not working under direct supervision.
• Be capable of reading and understanding technical documents such as paint mixing procedures, and maintaining sprayer equipment as required.
• Have the ability and desire to become efficient with painting techniques, meet company productivity rates, maintain mil thickness, and learn all aspects of job as required.
• Cleaning spraying equipment with solvent or other recommended cleaning solutions daily.
• Operating the blaster to clean steel according to specified safety requirements.
• Maintaining proper respirator care and operation and using the breathing air supply system when spraying epoxy paints.
• Apply touchups or second coats.
• Remove paint splatters when finished.
• Mix, match, and apply paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, and other finishes.
• Scrape, sandpaper, prime, or seal surfaces prior to painting.

• Physical Demand: Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted.

• Shift Time/Overtime: Must be able to work various shifts and must be able to work OT as necessary.
