Job summary

CBJ Management LLC is seeking an experienced Commercial Mechanical Insulation Estimator with a strong background in commercial and industrial HVAC, plumbing, and process piping insulation. Are you an experienced insulation contractor or estimator who wants to focus on estimating, developing opportunities, and winning profitable work—without managing every aspect of owning a company?

This opportunity is ideal for candidates with 3–5+ years of estimating experience and a deep knowledge of HVAC

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of estimating experience in mechanical insulation or a related trade.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, hydronic, and process piping systems.
• Experience estimating commercial and industrial mechanical insulation.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings, specifications, schedules, and details.
• Knowledge of insulation materials and systems (fiberglass, elastomeric, cellular glass, mineral wool, PVC, aluminum/stainless jacketing).
• Experience with computerized estimating/takeoff software preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare estimates for HVAC ductwork, plumbing, hydronic piping, process piping, equipment, and mechanical insulation.
• Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and bid documents.
• Perform detailed material and labor takeoffs.
• Determine insulation types, thicknesses, jacketing, vapor barriers, and other project requirements.
• Develop labor and material pricing for competitive bids.
• Obtain and evaluate vendor and supplier quotations.
• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, alternates, and potential project risks.
• Prepare complete proposals and bid submissions.
• Review project requirements with management and operations before turnover.
• Track bid results and assist with follow-up and negotiations.
• Develop relationships with mechanical contractors, general contractors, and customers.

• Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, hydronic, and process piping systems
• Experience estimating commercial and industrial mechanical insulation
• Ability to read mechanical drawings, specifications, schedules, and details
• Strong understanding of insulation materials and systems, including fiberglass, elastomeric, cellular glass, mineral wool, PVC, aluminum/stainless jacketing, and related products
• Experience with computerized estimating/takeoff software preferred
• Strong mathematical, organizational, and analytical skills
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
• Strong communication and follow-up skills

We're looking for someone who can do more than simply perform takeoffs. The right candidate understands how mechanical insulation projects are actually built and can recognize scope issues, constructability concerns, labor challenges, and opportunities that aren't always obvious from the drawings.

Current or former mechanical insulation business owners are strongly encouraged to apply. Your experience running projects, dealing with customers, estimating work, purchasing materials, and understanding what it takes to make a job profitable is exactly the type of experience we value.

Experience working with mechanical contractors, insulation contractors, industrial facilities, hospitals, pharmaceutical facilities, schools, commercial buildings, and similar projects is highly desirable.
