The New York City Department of Transportation is looking for a Community Coordinator with strong graphic design skills. This role involves managing large-scale design projects for various city initiatives, ensuring effective visual communication across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate will collaborate with stakeholders and maintain brand guidelines while staying updated on design trends.
The New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) is seeking a creative, hard-working graphic designer who can design for both digital and print mediums. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Creative Services, the ideal candidate will manage demanding, highly-visible, and large-scale design projects, including citywide initiatives such as Summer Streets, Vision Zero, Open Streets, Car-Free Earth Day, and more.
The selected candidate should possess the ability to present creative concepts to the Executive Director of Creative Services and other agency staff, work with stakeholders on development, and oversee successful execution. Responsibilities include recommending the best ways to visually communicate new safety and transportation improvement projects for the public across various NYC DOT channels (print, web, social media). The role also involves maintaining existing NYC DOT brand and Vision Zero style guides, designing logos, icons, illustrations, postcards, flyers, posters, invitations, ads, brochures, banners, signage, diagrams, and reports for print, websites, mobile apps, and social media platforms.
Additional duties include creating animations and motion graphics for digital campaigns, websites, and promotional content; developing layouts, UI components, and interactive elements that align with brand guidelines; collaborating with agency developers to ensure designs translate effectively into functional UX web and app experiences; designing marketing materials such as banners, email templates, and digital ads; and optimizing designs for different screen sizes to ensure responsiveness and usability. The candidate should stay updated on design trends, animation techniques, and emerging technologies.
