Job summary

Suffolk Public Schools is seeking a School Safety Specialist (Grant Funded) to develop and enforce comprehensive safety and security policies across the division. This role coordinates with local public safety and is based mainly in school environments with occasional community engagements.

The position requires strong organizational skills, experience in public safety, and the ability to manage multiple safety initiatives, audits, and training programs across sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and background in safety/public safety preferred.
• Certified Protection Professional preferred.
• Experience with law enforcement agencies or safety personnel.
• Strong building security background and crisis management knowledge.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Promotes best safe schools' practices and emergency procedures division-wide.
• Ensure compliance with Virginia school safety regulations.
• Create and monitor building-level safety checklists and implementation.
• Respond to safety emergencies and coordinate with external agencies.
• Complete DCJS and other required safety audits and submissions.
• Serve as Emergency Manager and coordinate security staff and threat assessments.
• Organize safety and security training for staff.
• Develop and maintain the Crisis Plan for the division.
• Monitor safety program metrics and compliance across buildings.
• Work primarily in a school environment with occasional home visits and community engagements.
