Job summary

SMART Workforce Center is seeking an Accounting Specialist to support a broad range of accounting, grant, and financial operations. You will handle accounts payable, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and payroll support while ensuring compliance with grant agreements and GAAP.

Proficiency with MIP Fund Accounting and Excel is preferred. You’ll maintain vendor records, assist with monthly/year-end closes and audits, strengthen internal controls, and provide excellent service to staff and

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Minimum of three years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
• Experience with nonprofit organizations, governmental grants, or federally funded programs is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of GAAP and grant accounting principles.

Responsibilities

• Process accounts payable and ACH/check payments.
• Review invoices for accuracy, approvals, allowability, and grant compliance.
• Code expenditures to funding sources and GL accounts.
• Prepare journal entries and maintain supporting documentation.
• Reconcile bank accounts, GL, payroll accounts, and subsidiary ledgers.
• Maintain vendor records, W-9 documentation, and annual 1099 reporting.
• Support payroll processing and benefits reconciliations.
• Maintain fixed asset and inventory records; prepare property reports.
• Assist with monthly/year-end closings and audits.
• Maintain strong internal controls and confidentiality.
