Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking an elevator/grain handler to tend, operate and oversee all areas within the elevator and office, ensuring quality, productivity and safety while delivering strong customer service to farmers and commercial customers. Ideal candidates will have grain experience, ability to work with SG procurement, operate loading equipment, and maintain inventories.

This role requires lifting up to 50 pounds and willingness to work extended hours during harvest seasons, with a focus

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Grain experience preferred.
• Able to understand and comply with all safety policies and practices.
• Verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills.
• Effective communication with grain customers.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Available to work extended weekday and weekend hours during grain harvest seasons.
• Able to sit, stand, walk, climb up and down ladders.
• Able to work in areas of considerable height.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Routinely exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions.
• Must be able to tolerate cold, heat, grain dust, grain/mill odors, and noisy conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate Smartsoft program and enter load data.
• Coordinate with SG procurement and buyers on contracts.
• Grade grain and manage grading procedures.
• Load/unload grain with trucks and farmers.
• Operate loading/unloading equipment for grain shipments.
• Inspect facilities to ensure equipment condition.
• Assist scheduling of inbound/outbound grain logistics.
• Maintain inventories and track grain movements.
• Identify problems and propose solutions with the facility manager.
• Interact with customers daily.
• Follow SG safety programs and environmental procedures.
• Report environmental issues to supervisor.
• Review emergency notification processes.
• Work scheduled days; may include weekends/holidays.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
