Job summary

Alliant Engineering in Minneapolis is seeking a Graduate Traffic Engineer to join a cohesive traffic engineering team, mentored by a licensed Professional Engineer.

You will work with DOTs, counties, cities and developers on signal timing projects, travel demand modeling, ITS planning, and traffic impact studies while developing your technical and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) or actively pursuing degree.
• 0–4 years of experience in Traffic Engineering.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
• Strong initiative and ability to contribute to high-quality deliverables.
• Excellent technical, written, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support signal timing projects and optimize Synchro models.
• Develop regional travel demand for traffic forecasting and microscopic models.
• Conduct capacity, operations and safety analyses for TIS/ICE/corridor studies.
• Support documentation and design of ITS.
• Traffic design – plans, specs, quantities and estimates.
• Develop maintenance of traffic plans for construction staging.

The Impact You’ll Have:

As a Graduate Traffic Engineer, you will have the ability to be a part of a cohesive Traffic Engineering team. Jump start your career by being exposed to a variety of transportation engineering experiences under the direction of a licensed and knowledgeable Professional Engineer. You will work with a variety of agencies including DOT’s, Counties, Cities and Developers.

Responsibilities:

• Support signal timing projects, including building, optimizing Synchro models and implementing signal timing plans
• Developing regional travel demand for traffic forecasting and microscopic traffic simulation models for urban arterial and freeway traffic operations.
• Conduct traffic capacity, traffic operations, and safety analysis for traffic impact studies (TIS), intersection control evaluations (ICE) and corridor studies
• Supporting documentation, evaluation and design of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
• Traffic design – plans, specifications, quantities and estimates for traffic signal, roadway lighting, roadway signing, and pavement markings
• Developing maintenance of traffic plans to support roadway construction staging.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (or related engineering field), or actively pursing degree
• 0 - 4 years of experience in Traffic Engineering
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel
• Motivated to learn, take initiative, and contribute to high-quality project deliverables
• Excellent technical, written, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency with Synchro, SimTraffic and Vissim traffic analysis software
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD or MicroStation

The base pay for this position is expected to be in the range of $70,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
