Job summary

Alliant Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Graduate Transportation Engineer to join our employee-owned firm.

You’ll work with a licensed Professional Engineer to grow skills while delivering roadway design projects for state, county, and local clients. You’ll engage in geometric design, road design, traffic engineering, plan production, and cost estimation, using MicroStation/OpenRoads/Civil 3D and AutoCAD Civil 3D, with mentors supporting your development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 0–4 years of Civil Engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Experience with MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer or AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
  • Internships/coursework exposing roadway design or transportation construction helpful.
  • Motivated to learn, take initiative and deliver high-quality work.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Geometric design—typical sections, alignments, profiles for roadways, bikeways, pedestrians.
  • Final road design—typical sections, superelevation, guardrail, roadway components.
  • Traffic engineering—signing, pavement marking, maintenance of traffic plans.
  • Plans—clear and complete plan sets for construction.
  • Cost estimating—quantities and historic unit prices for costs.
  • Use Microstation/OpenRoads Designer/AutoCAD Civil 3D to draft and model designs.
  • Coordinate with project teams to support delivery of transportation projects.

The Impact You’ll Have:

As a Graduate Transportation Engineer, you will work with a licensed Professional Engineer focused on helping you grow your skills while delivering roadway design projects for state, county, and local clients. You will be involved in all aspects of transportation design and will work closely with mentors and peers invested in the growth and success of your career.

Responsibilities:
  • Geometric Design - developing typical sections, alignments and profiles for roadways, bikeways, and pedestrian facilities.
  • Final Road Design - determining and detailing typical sections, superelevation, guardrail, and other roadway components.
  • Traffic Engineering - developing signing, pavement marking, and maintenance of traffic plans.
  • Plans - producing clear and complete plan sets for construction.
  • Cost Estimating - preparing quantities and researching historic unit prices to estimate construction costs.
  • Utilize design software such as Microstation/Geopak, OpenRoads Designer, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D to draft, model designs, and prepare plans.
  • Coordinate with project teams to support the successful delivery of transportation projects for state, county, and municipal clients.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (or related engineering field), or actively pursing degree
  • 0 - 4 years of experience in Civil Engineering
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel
  • Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred
  • Exposure to roadway design, traffic engineering, or transportation construction through internships, coursework, or professional experience preferred
  • Motivated to learn, take initiative, and contribute to high-quality project deliverables
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

The base pay for this position is expected to be in the range of $70,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
