Job summary

Alliant Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Graduate Transportation Engineer to grow under a licensed Professional Engineer while delivering roadway design projects for state, county, and local clients.

You will contribute to geometric design and plan development with mentorship and opportunities for professional growth. The role involves traffic engineering, cost estimating, and using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and AutoCAD Civil 3D to draft plans, with a collaborative team culture and a focus

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field; or actively pursuing degree.
  • 0–4 years of Civil Engineering experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word & Excel).
  • Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
  • Exposure to roadway design, traffic engineering, or transportation construction through internships or coursework preferred.
  • Motivated to learn, take initiative, and contribute to high-quality deliverables.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Geometric Design—develop typical sections, alignments and profiles for roadways, bikeways, and pedestrian facilities.
  • Final Road Design—detail typical sections, superelevation, guardrail, and other roadway components.
  • Traffic Engineering—develop signing, pavement marking, and maintenance of traffic plans.
  • Plans—produce clear and complete plan sets for construction.
  • Cost Estimating—prepare quantities and research historic unit prices to estimate construction costs.
  • Utilize design software such as Microstation/Geopak, OpenRoads Designer, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D to draft, model designs, and prepare plans.
  • Coordinate with project teams to support successful delivery of transportation projects for state, county, and municipal clients.

The Impact You’ll Have:

As a Graduate Transportation Engineer, you will work with a licensed Professional Engineer focused on helping you grow your skills while delivering roadway design projects for state, county, and local clients. The base pay for this position is expected to be in the range of $70,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
