The New School's NSSR department seeks a part-time Student Advisor for the 2026-2027 academic year to support incoming and current NSSR graduate scholars with enrollment procedures and degree requirements.

The role carries a projected 10–25 hours per week and requires a hybrid on-site presence in New York. The advisor will coordinate advising, update handbooks, organize orientations, and assist with registration and graduation tasks under Academic Affairs and Chairs.

Qualifications

• Advanced scholar in excellent standing with GPA ≥ 3.4.
• Must have completed at least 66% of attempted credits before term start.
• Demonstrates understanding of NSSR policies and milestones for scholarly advancement.

Responsabilités

• Coordinate faculty advising for new and continuing students (C).
• Provide program information to continuing students (AA/C).
• Develop and/or update student handbooks for fall registration (AA/C).
• Organize, advertise, and conduct orientation activities for new students (AA/C).
• Assist in gathering enrollment and placement information (AA/C).
• Prepare biannual academic reviews data (AA/C).
• Maintain department records including advising assignments (AA/C).
• Report on departmental advising and dissertation committees (AA).
• Participate in faculty meetings (C).
• Maintain regular office hours and assist during registration (AA).
• Assist with registrar paperwork and graduation tasks (AA/C).
• Support administration of MA/PhD exams (C).
• Handle typing, correspondence, filing, etc. (AA/C).
