Qualifications

• Completion of the course requirements for graduation from an Associate’s Degree, Diploma or Bachelor of Science program in nursing.
• Qualified by education, training or experience to work with neonate to geriatric patient populations as specialty dictates.
• All Graduate Nurse Externs must take the NCLEX; if 2nd attempt unsuccessful, may work in an ancillary role within 90 days.
• RN licensure in TN required within 90 days of hire.
• BCLS - Basic Life Support required upon hire.
• Experience in patient care as obtained through completion of an approved nursing program.

Responsibilities

• Provides nursing care according to medical regime and the nursing plan appropriate for the patients' conditions and according to established standards, policies and procedures.
• Assesses, plans and implements care of assigned patient consistent with policies, procedures, competencies and safety practices.
• Performs duties specific to the clinical area, excluding administration of medications, IVs and blood products.
• Implements patient teaching outlines including objectives, content and evaluation of progress.
• Documents assessment and other clinical judgments.
• Monitors patient status and responses to treatment and reports any changes.
