Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Missile GNC Engineer with a Bachelor's or Master’s in engineering, physics, or math to design, implement, and evaluate GN&C subsystems for the nation’s strategic missile systems. You will join a team of engineers, physicists, and mathematicians dedicated to independent evaluation of critical defense technologies.

The role emphasizes MATLAB/Simulink work, state estimation, and Kalman filtering, with opportunities to obtain Interim Secret up

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's in Engineering, Physics, Math, or a related field.
Coursework in flight dynamics, guidance, navigation, or control, linear state-space systems, physical system modeling, or estimation theory.
Willingness to learn new skills and expand capabilities.
Must be able to obtain Interim Secret clearance by start date and ultimately Top Secret; U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

Develop and evaluate GN&C methodologies for next-generation missile flight systems.
Apply state estimation techniques to navigation problems with very large state representations.
Develop navigation-related error models from a math/physics perspective.
Analyze real missile flight test data to assess GN&C performance.
Work with MATLAB and Simulink to generate navigation sensor models and conduct performance trade studies.
Develop navigation algorithms for 6-DOF simulations.
