Job summary

The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a GN&C Missile Engineer focused on navigation to design, model, and evaluate next-generation missile systems. You will develop 6 DOF models, implement high-fidelity navigation estimators (Kalman Filters) and assess sensor data from IMUs, GPS, and radar.

Ideal candidates hold a B.S. in a relevant field, 2+ years of experience in estimation, navigation or flight dynamics, and are willing to obtain interim and Top Secret clearances.

Qualifications

  • BS in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Physics.
  • 2+ years of experience in estimation methods, covariance analysis, inertial navigation, flight dynamics, control law design, or guidance/path planning.
  • Interest and willingness to work on missile systems.
  • Experience in MATLAB or C++; willingness to learn Simulink.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% for sponsor meetings.
  • Eligible for interim Secret level security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct GN&C subsystem trade studies, designs, and analyses for next generation missile systems.
  • Develop 6 DOF models and high-fidelity navigation estimators using Kalman Filters.
  • Assess pre-flight and post-flight performance from telemetry (IMU, GPS, RADAR, and other sensors).
  • Design, implement, and test software for analyses and data products.
  • Present work to internal audiences, Sponsors, and external organizations.
