Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a PhD-level Missile GNC Engineer to design, evaluate, and implement GN&C subsystems for national missile systems. You will join a team of engineers, physicists, and mathematicians focused on independent evaluation of weapon system performance.

Responsibilities include developing methodologies, applying state estimation, and presenting results to sponsors.

Qualifications

• Minimum: PhD in Engineering, Physics, Math or related field.
• Coursework/research in flight dynamics, guidance, navigation, control, linear state-space systems, or estimation theory.
• Willingness to obtain Interim Secret and eventually Top Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop GN&C methodologies for next-generation missile flight systems.
• Apply state estimation and large state representations for on-board and post-flight analysis.
• Understand navigation error models from math and physics perspectives.
• Use MATLAB/Simulink to generate navigation sensor models and perform trade studies.
• Develop navigation algorithms for 6-DOF simulations.
• Present analysis and results to sponsors informing weapon system performance.
