Job description

Overview

This position is open to federal work-study and non-FWS graduate students. The Office of Undergraduate Admission (OUA) seeks a Graduate Intern (GI) to assist with the strategic development, management, and assessment of the on‑grounds visit experience for prospective and admitted students and their families.

In this role, the GI will work closely with OUA staff, student interns, UVA faculty, staff, and alumni to ensure a welcoming, informative, and engaging visitor experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage OUA’s student intern team
• Oversee daily tour/information session visits
• Plan and execute open house programs
• Coordinate group tours
• Support OUA Dean of the Day
• Provide guidance to prospective students and applicants on the admission process
• Collaborate with high school counselors and community‑based organization leaders to create visit opportunities for underserved students
• Coordinate large‑scale admitted student programs

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Registered as a graduate student
• Strong organizational, communication, and public‑speaking skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Self‑motivated, enthusiastic about recruitment, and open to constructive feedback

Compensation

Hourly rate: $16.00 per hour.

Hours of work

Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with approximately three Saturdays per semester.

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job that involves extensive use of a desktop computer. Some time outside will be required for events.
