Job summary

S.T. Wooten Corporation in Wilmington, NC seeks skilled heavy equipment operators for two available positions. You will operate power construction equipment including bulldozers, excavators, graders to excavate, move, and grade earth for roadbeds, parking lots, and other projects.

Candidates must have at least 2 years of heavy equipment experience, read plans, and be able to work nights and weekends. High school diploma or GED preferred, must be 21+, and willing to perform general labor when

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Must be a minimum of 21 years old.
• Minimum of 2 years' operating heavy equipment experience on a backhoe, dozer or excavator.
• Able to read plans and work with grades.
• Experience on multiple machines is a plus.
• Grading and excavation on commercial job sites required.

Responsibilities

• Load and move dirt, rocks, equipment, or other materials using trucks, power cranes, shovels, or related equipment.
• Start machine, engage clutch, and push and move levers, switches, and pedals to guide machine.
• Drive and maneuver equipment with blades in passes over working areas to remove topsoil, vegetation, or rocks.
• Operate machinery to spread, smooth, level earth or asphalt on road beds or other sites.
• Operate tamping machines or manually roll surfaces to compact materials according to grade specs.
• Observe grade to adjust machine settings for evenness.
• Conduct pre-shift inspections of equipment for safety and defects.
• Work long hours including nights and weekends as demanded.
• Align machines with reference stakes and guidelines using hand signals.
• Coordinate machine actions with crew signals.
• Inspect, clean, maintain, and repair equipment; report concerns.
• Follow safety regulations and be responsible for at-fault accidents.
• Avoid hazards such as utilities, other equipment, and workers.
• Comply with company policies and regulatory authorities.
• Perform general labor as needed.
• Occasionally perform other duties as directed.
