Job summary

S.T. Wooten Corporation in Wilmington, NC is seeking a skilled Heavy Highway Equipment Operator to operate motor graders, bulldozers, backhoes and other earthmoving gear.

The role requires extensive field work, pre-shift inspections, safe operation, and coordination with truck crews. Must have at least 4 years of operating experience and be able to read grade stakes; willingness to work nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Must be a minimum of 21 years old.
• Prefer at least 4 years of operating experience.
• Must be able to fine grade within 1/4" to be considered and operate motor grader competently and safely.
• Must be able to read grade stakes.
• Must be able to work with others well.
• Operator experience in multiple types of equipment a plus.
• Willing to do laborer work if necessary.
• Must be able to pass all background requirements in order to acquire a base pass.
• Cleaning driving record.
• Must be willing to work nights and weekends.
• Must be dependable with a good work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Load and move dirt, rocks, equipment, or other materials using trucks, power cranes, shovels, or related equipment.
• Start machine, engage clutch, and push and move levers, switches, and pedals to guide machine attachments such as blades, buckets, scrapers, or swing booms.
• Drive and maneuver equipment over working areas to remove topsoil, vegetation, or rocks or to distribute and level earth.
• Spread, smooth, level, or stone, concrete, or asphalt on road beds or other job sites as needed.
• Operate tamping machines or manually roll surfaces to compact earth fills, according to grade specifications.
• Observe grade and adjust machine settings for uneven areas.
• Conduct pre-shift inspections of equipment for safety and defects.
• Work long hours including nights and weekends.
• Coordinate machine actions with other activities and trucks using signals from crew members.
• Inspect, clean, maintain, and repair equipment; report concerns to supervisors.
• Learn and follow safety regulations and be responsible for at-fault accidents.
• Perform general labor duties as needed and possible.
