Summary:

Responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive respiratory care. The Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory care procedures and modalities in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures. Using evidence-based practices, clinical decision making, and skilled communication, the therapist compassionately leads efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum, under the guidance of a licensed respiratory therapist in designated areas per site discretion.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Provide and coordinate comprehensive respiratory care, administering procedures and modalities per standards, policies, and procedures. Lead efforts to ensure safety and quality in patient care.
2. Operate specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care settings. Assist physicians with bedside or other procedures as applicable.
3. Provide medication treatments and therapies as prescribed by physicians or patient-driven protocols.
4. Maintain, troubleshoot, and ensure proper functionality of equipment.
5. Educate and instruct patients on therapy purposes, techniques, self-care, and disease management.
6. Collaborate with other departments for clinical problem solving and education on patient management.
7. Adapt and comply with policies for various service areas, perform assigned tasks, and uphold performance standards.
8. Promote a safety culture by applying safety measures, reporting safety events, and assisting in corrective actions.
9. Provide care appropriate to the patient's age, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development, and interpreting data to meet individual needs.

Licensure, Registration, and Certifications:

• Respiratory Therapist certification (CRT) from NBRC (to be obtained within 45 days).
• BLS certification from AHA.
• ACLS, PALS, ACCS, NRP, NPS certifications to be obtained within specified timeframes (to be determined).

Education:

Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.

Experience:

No experience required.

• Decision-making abilities for patient care and equipment use.
• Proficiency with computers, electronic mail, and medical record systems.

• Time management skills for multitasking and prioritizing.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Ability to operate necessary equipment.
• Lift up to 50 lbs, perform transfers, and push/pull with force as specified.
• Use safe body mechanics at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
