About the Role

Advocate Children’s Hospital (ACH) - Oak Lawn seeks talented, motivated respiratory therapists passionate about caring for neonatal and pediatric patients. New team members receive comprehensive orientation and develop skills for Neonatal ICU, Pediatric ICU, Pediatric Cardiac ICU, Pediatric General Floors, and Pediatric Emergency Department. Summary

The respiratory therapist provides and coordinates comprehensive respiratory care, administering procedures and modalities according to established standards and policies. Using evidence-based practices, clinical judgment, and effective communication, the therapist strives to create a safe environment and excellent patient experience under the supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist in designated areas.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Provide and coordinate comprehensive respiratory care, including administering procedures and modalities following standards, policies, and procedures.
  2. Operate specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical settings; assist physicians with bedside procedures as applicable.
  3. Administer medication treatments and therapies as prescribed or per patient-driven protocols.
  4. Maintain and troubleshoot equipment, ensuring proper functionality and identifying repair needs.
  5. Educate patients on therapy purpose, techniques, self-care, and disease management.
  6. Collaborate with other departments for clinical problem solving and patient education.
  7. Adapt to policies and perform tasks as required, maintaining performance standards.
  8. Promote safety by applying proper measures, reporting safety events, and assisting in corrective actions.
  9. Provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge of growth, development, and patient-specific needs.
Licensure, Registration, and Certification
  • Respiratory Therapist certification (CRT) from NBRC, to be obtained within 45 days.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from AHA, to be obtained within 0 months unless waived.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from AHA, to be obtained within 0 months unless waived.
  • Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) from NBRC, to be obtained within 0 months unless waived.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) from AHA/AAP, to be obtained within 0 months unless waived.
  • Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Specialist (NPS) from NBRC, to be obtained within 0 months unless waived.
Education and Experience
  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • No experience required.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and computer skills.
  • Ability to develop rapport and maintain professional relationships.
