Location: Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital - 450 W. Highway 22, Barrington

Shift: 2nd Shift or 3rd Shift (Evening or Nights)

Summary

Responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive respiratory care. The Respiratory therapist administers procedures and modalities in accordance with standards, policies, and procedures. Using evidence-based practices, clinical decision making, and skilled communication, the therapist creates a safe environment and enhances patient experience, under the guidance of a licensed respiratory therapist in designated areas.

Major Responsibilities

1. Provide and coordinate respiratory care, administer procedures, and ensure safety and quality standards are met.
2. Operate specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care settings. Assist physicians with bedside procedures.
3. Administer medication treatments and therapies per physician orders or protocols.
4. Maintain, troubleshoot, and ensure equipment functionality.
5. Educate patients on therapy purposes, techniques, and disease management.
6. Collaborate with departments for clinical problem solving and patient education.
7. Adapt and comply with policies across service areas, perform duties as assigned, and uphold performance standards.
8. Promote safety culture, report safety events, and assist in corrective actions.
9. Provide age-appropriate care, understanding growth and development over the lifespan.

Licensure, Registration, and Certification

• CRT issued by NBRC, to be obtained within 45 days.
• BLS certification from AHA.
• ACLS, PALS, ACCS, NRP, and NPS certifications as required, to be obtained within specified timeframes.

Education

• Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.

Experience

• No experience required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Effective communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Computer proficiency, including electronic medical records.
• Ability to develop rapport with patients and team members.
• Time management and multi-tasking skills.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Operate equipment, lift up to 50 lbs, perform transfers, and utilize safe body mechanics.
