Job Summary
Responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive respiratory care. The Respiratory Therapist administers procedures and modalities in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures. Using evidence-based practices, clinical decision-making, and skilled communication, the therapist leads efforts to create a safe patient environment and enhance patient experience, under the guidance of a licensed respiratory therapist in designated areas per site discretion.
Major Responsibilities
- Provide and coordinate comprehensive respiratory care, administering procedures and modalities per standards and policies. Use evidence-based practices, clinical judgment, and communication skills to ensure safety and quality care.
- Operate specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care settings. Assist physicians with bedside or other procedures as applicable.
- Administer medication treatments and therapies as prescribed by physicians or patient-driven protocols.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and ensure proper functionality of equipment, reporting issues as needed.
- Educate and instruct patients on therapy purpose, techniques, self-care, and disease management.
- Collaborate with other departments for clinical problem-solving and patient management education.
- Adapt and comply with policies for various service areas, perform assigned tasks, and uphold organizational standards.
- Promote a safety culture by applying safety measures, reporting safety events, and assisting in corrective actions.
- Provide age-appropriate care, understanding growth and development principles, and interpreting patient data to meet individual needs.
Licensure, Registration, and Certifications
- Respiratory Therapist Certification (CRT) from NBRC, to be obtained within 45 days.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers from AHA.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from AHA, within required timeframe.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from AHA, within required timeframe.
- Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) from NBRC, within required timeframe.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) from AHA/AAP, within required timeframe.
- Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Specialist (NPS) from NBRC, within required timeframe.
Educational Requirements
- Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
Experience
- No prior experience required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Operate necessary equipment.
- Lift up to 50 lbs, occasionally more, with proper body mechanics.
- Push/pull with force as specified.
- Perform transfers and other physical tasks as required.
