Job summary

Washington Hospitality Association in Olympia, WA, seeks a part-time Government Affairs Coordinator to support the Government Affairs Department and mobilize members in the legislative process. The role reports to the Director of Government Affairs and requires 25–28 hours per week with in-person duties during the legislative session.

  • Collaborate with Communications to issue calls to action and report outcomes.

  • Base Pay $22.00 - $24.00 / Hour

Position Description

The Government Affairs Coordinator is responsible for supporting the primary functions of the Government Affairs Department. This position will also assist with engaging, enabling, and mobilizing members to become active participants in the legislative process and strengthen the industry’s collective voice. The Government Affairs Coordinator reports to the Director of Government Affairs. This is a part-time position, with an average work schedule of 25-28 hours per week.


Essential duties and responsibilities that include but are not limited to:

Primary


  • Help manage the Director’s calendar, and other teammates as necessary

  • Assist in identifying and recruiting high engagement members, hosting member regional meetings and meetings with lawmakers, and engaging members in political fundraising campaigns.

  • Provide opportunities for members to participate in GAC meetings, as well as manage Committee invites, meeting preparation, and member lists.

  • Manage legislator information lists and maintain the ability to contact lawmakers quickly.

  • Assist in analyzing member engagement data and ensure that all engagement documentation is current and complete in CRM.

  • Assist with building and populating lawmaker voting records and engage members in campaigns and fundraising efforts for endorsed lawmakers.

  • Assist in collaborating with the Communications team to put out calls to action, provide education opportunities, and communicate key political outcomes to members.

Technical Qualifications


  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.

  • Ability to work with a variety of electronic devices including laptop, smart phone, and tablet.


Position Requirements


  • O ne to three years of administrative or scheduling experience .

  • Interest in government affairs, public policy, advocacy, member engagement, or the hospitality industry.

  • Must be able to work in person in Olympia January-May during the Legislative Session. During Session, early mornings, late evenings, and weekend work is to be expected.

  • In-person attendance for trainings and All-Team events is required.

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

  • Regularly required to stand, walk and sit; use hands to handle objects and feel controls; reach; climb stairs; stoop; crouch; talk; listen; and vision capabilities that enable reading and viewing a computer screen. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

Summary

Compensation


  • The starting range for this position is $22 to $24 per hour, depending on experience. (Range for the position depending on qualifications and experience factors is$21.20 to $28.84 per hour)

  • No health, dental, vision, or other insurance benefits offered for this role.

  • 14 paid holidays.

  • 401k participation will be subject to plan and IRS guidelines.

  • Paid sick leave will be offered in accordance with WA state law.
