City of Raleigh NC is seeking a competent Accountant to join the Accounting Division. You will prepare and analyze accounting data, maintain ledgers, and ensure compliance with GAAP and city policies. This role collaborates with departments to support accurate financial reporting and fiscal management.

The position emphasizes journal entries, reconciliations, grant management, and close processes, offering a hybrid work arrangement and opportunities to impact citywide financial operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field with 1–3 years of accounting experience.
• Equivalent combination of training/experience may be substituted.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and governmental accounting standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries, year-end accruals, and reconciliations for all City departments.
• Reconcile quarterly grants; monitor grant activity and prepare fiscal analyses for annual funding.
• Verify budget and approve wires and non-purchase order payments.
• Monitor reporting deadlines for financial information and deliverables.
• Conduct cash audits and physical inventories; report findings affecting financial operations.
• Collaborate on accounting policy revisions and prepare new procedures and workflows.
• Assist with monthly and year-end close; contribute to ACFR schedules and compliance reports.
