Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a GNC Engineer – Embedded Controls for Starlink in Redmond, WA. You will apply dynamics and closed-loop controls to achieve precise pointing on satellites, perform design trades, simulations, flight code development, and deploy features in space.

The role combines analysis with hands-on hardware and software work, using C++, Python, and MATLAB for simulations and production software. You’ll operate in a fast-paced, startup-style team advancing global broadband access.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, physics or an engineering discipline.
• Experience with design and analysis of closed loop control systems.
• Software development experience in C++.

Responsibilities

• Design, analysis, implementation of electromechanical control systems (solar array actuators, antenna gimbals, high bandwidth optics).
• Design, analysis, implementation of satellite attitude control and momentum management systems.
• Design, analysis, implementation of fluid and power system controls for Starlink thrusters.
• Optimal state estimation for mechanical alignment and attitude determination.
• Hardware performance spec and sizing; support for hardware iteration and firmware bringup; production screening and fleet performance monitoring.
• Development and maintenance of high fidelity simulations using C++, Python, MATLAB; integration into analysis tools.
• Implementation, validation, unit testing, deployment of production software (C++) for the systems described.
• Provide engineering and data review support for hardware development and network performance monitoring.
