Job summary

The USO in Arlington, VA seeks a VP of Human Resources to lead all HR functions for a globally dispersed workforce of employees and volunteers, shaping policy, culture, and operations to advance the mission.

You will partner with the CEO, CAO, and senior leadership to design and execute a cross-cutting HR strategy, oversee total rewards, talent management, development, governance, compliance, and HR operations, while ensuring data privacy and risk management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or related field required.
• 15+ years HR experience with at least 7 years in senior leadership roles.
• Experience in multi-site organizations and nonprofit sector preferred.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. employment laws and HR best practices.
• DEI and inclusive culture advocate.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for HR across USO’s global footprint.
• Partner with CEO to align HR planning with mission and growth.
• Ensure compliance with US laws and international labor rules.
• Oversee governance, risk, data privacy in HR operations.
• Design and manage total rewards including compensation and benefits.
• Develop learning and leadership development programs.
• Support succession planning and talent development.
• Collaborate with Volunteer Management and Operations teams.
• Advise on HR policies and employee relations.
• Represent HR to Board committees as needed.
