Job summary

Achieve Life Sciences, Inc. seeks a Manager, Payroll to own and scale the global payroll function across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. You will oversee end-to-end payroll operations, tax compliance, and reporting while partnering with HR, Finance, and Sales Operations.

You will prepare payroll processes for a potential commercial launch, including incentive compensation, field-force pay, and equity-related payroll activities, in a fast-growing environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 7+ years of payroll experience, including 3+ years in a payroll lead or management role.
• Hands-on experience managing multi-country payroll, with direct responsibility for US/Canada/UK.
• Strong working knowledge of US federal and multi-state payroll tax requirements, wage and hour regulations.
• Experience processing equity compensation (stock options, RSUs, ESPP).
• Proficiency with a major payroll or HRIS platform (ADP Workforce Now or Rippling).
• Strong analytical skills and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Responsibilities

• Lead global payroll operations across US, Canada, and UK, including regular, off-cycle, and bonus payrolls.
• Manage multi-state payroll for employees across states, including remote and field-based personnel.
• Oversee payroll providers, HRIS integrations, and drive process improvements as the business scales.
• Maintain payroll tax compliance, filings, remittances, and registrations across jurisdictions.
• Prepare for commercial launch by establishing payroll processes for incentive compensation and sales rewards.
• Support field-force compensation, including reimbursements, car allowances, and expense policies.
• Administer equity and benefits payroll, including RSUs and ESPP transactions.
• Reconcile benefits deductions and support 401(k) and retirement plans.
• Own payroll accounting and month-end close, delivering reports and headcount analyses.
• Support SOX compliance, internal controls, and audit readiness.
