Job summary

Vedder's Chicago office is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead domestic and international payroll operations across US, UK, and Singapore. The role emphasizes accuracy, security, compliance, and strong internal controls while developing a capable payroll team.

You will partner with Finance and HR to ensure timely payroll delivery, regulatory compliance, and ongoing process improvements in a fast-paced professional services environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of six to eight years of progressively responsible payroll experience, with at least two years leading staff.
• Experience managing multi-state and international payrolls in a multi-entity environment.
• Hands-on experience processing and approving payroll in UKG; ADP experience preferred.
• International payroll experience involving the United Kingdom and Singapore preferred.
• Experience in a professional services or law firm environment preferred.
• Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Payroll function across domestic and international offices.
• Establish payroll calendars, assign team responsibilities, monitor workflow, and ensure cycles are on schedule.
• Coach, mentor, and develop Payroll team members with cross-training and coverage.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for complex payroll inquiries and regulatory matters.
• Oversee end-to-end payroll operations for US, UK, and Singapore across multiple entities.
• Review and approve payroll transactions including hires, terminations, changes, and deductions.
• Ensure compliance with payroll taxes, wage-and-hour laws, and maintain required records.
• Maintain audit-ready payroll controls and data security practices.
• Collaborate with Accounting to reconcile payroll accounts and support financial reporting.
