Job summary

Emerson, Marshalltown, IA, is seeking a Materials Engineer to drive innovation across global product lines. You will work with metallic and non-metallic materials, including polymers, elastomers, coatings, adhesives, and lubricants, to support design, manufacturing, and performance.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Metallurgical, Polymer, or Plastics Engineering.
  • 2+ years of relevant materials experience will be strongly considered.
  • Experience applying materials technology to solving a broad range of problems.
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new technology.
  • Self-motivated, self-sufficient, and able to work with teams with competing interests.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to present to large audiences.
  • Ability to follow SOPs and safely perform experiments; growth opportunities to implement test practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership in identification, development, application, and qualification of materials for product design, manufacture, and application.
  • Lead projects and support failure analysis, supplier qualification, material selection, and materials research.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and customers worldwide to understand materials needs.
  • Create and document best practices for applicable technologies in current and future projects.
  • Develop and maintain internal specifications and practices.
  • Contribute to and interpret industry standards.
