Emerson in Marshalltown, IA seeks a Materials Engineer to drive innovation across global product lines. You will handle metallic and non-metallic materials—polymers, elastomers, coatings, adhesives, and lubricants—to support design, manufacturing, and performance.

This role emphasizes material selection, failure analysis, supplier qualification, and continuous improvement while collaborating with teams and customers worldwide.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in a materials engineering field; advanced degree or 2+ years of experience are strongly considered.
• Experience applying materials technology to solving a broad range of problems.
• Ability to quickly learn and apply new technology.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to present to large audiences.
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures and safely perform experiments; growth opportunities to implement test practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership in identification, development, application, and qualification of materials for the product line.
• Lead projects and support failure analysis, supplier qualification, material selection, and materials research.
• Collaborate with internal teams and customers worldwide to understand their materials needs.
• Create and document best practices for the application of appropriate technologies to development projects.
• Develop and maintain internal specifications and practices.
• Contribute to and interpret industry standards.
