For our Global Supply Chain organization, we are looking for a Global Manager, Trade Compliance. In this position, you will report to the Director, Logistics and Trade Compliance. You will play a key role in developing global compliance programs and overseeing the operations of Export and Import Compliance tasks. This role would ideally sit in either our Londonderry, NH, or Ypsilanti, MI offices on a hybrid basis.
What you will do:
- Develop, implement and maintain programs, policies, procedures and controls to ensure company compliance in accordance with guidelines of CBP (Custom and Border Patrol) and other Global Customs Agencies.
- Responsible for overseeing and leading the daily operations around all export and Import Compliance tasks, including direct report(s) of daily workload.
- Interface with Freight Forwarders, Customs officers, Customs Brokers, and internal and external customers on all matters pertaining to Customs and Import/Export regulations.
- Implement company-wide “GTC Audit Program” to include import entry filings, AES export filings, valuation methodology and internal GTC gaps to mitigate business risk.
- Manage the assignment of HTS classifications, Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN), FDA import product codes and country of origin determination.
- Manage Import/Export record-keeping process in compliance with guidelines set forth by Customs Authorities and the Company’s corporate policy.
- Manage the selection, support and audit of Freight Forwarders and Customs Brokers globally.
- Ensure that company transactions are properly screened for Denied Parties and Entities, restricted end-uses, and diversion.
- Conduct internal audit and assessment of business activities for adherence to Import/Export procedures throughout the business lifecycle, including early-stage review of new products and classification/characterization of commodities through final delivery to the customer.
- Analyze current business operations for potential use of Free Trade Agreements, Duty Drawback, Foreign Trade Zones, Carnets and Bonded Warehouses.
- Monitor and evaluate global regulatory changes that impact compliance operations; inform management and implement appropriate process changes into day-to-day operations and procedures.
- Monitor, measure, and report Key Performance Indicators (KPI) related to Import/Export activities.
- Evaluate new Government Agency requirements to ensure compliance with changes and incorporation
- Provide Global Trade Compliance training to cross-functional teams, including R & D, Logistics, Supply Chain, Sales, IT, and Engineering.
- Act as a change catalyst and drive global process improvements.
- Participate in special projects as necessary.
This role may be a good fit if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in Import/Export roles.
- Minimum of 1 year of management experience preferred.
- Proficient with MS Office products; experience with SAP/SAP GTS highly desirable.
- Licensed U.S. Customs Broker preferred, but not mandatory.
- Solid knowledge of worldwide Harmonized Tariff Schedules and global Government Agency Import/Export regulations (e.g. CBP, Census, BIS, OFAC, ITAR).
- In-depth knowledge of the use and meaning of Incoterms in the international arena.
- Successful experience in building and integrating Import/Export compliance into business operations.
- Strong interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching and development skills.
- Highly motivated with the ability to work within teams and independently with minimal supervision.
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask, prioritize and be adaptable.
- Solid communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills;
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly manipulate data and draw appropriate conclusions.
- Ability to interface and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in order to implement initiatives across cross-functional departments.
- Applies a sense of urgency to resolve problems and supports root-cause analysis.
- Ability to apply judgment and discretion.
