Job summary

Meta seeks an attorney with deep experience in online IP to serve as Associate General Counsel, IP Product, guiding global IP strategy across Meta’s apps and services, including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, and Messenger.

You will counsel cross-functionally with product, engineering, policy, operations, and outside counsel, addressing copyright, trademark, licensing, and intermediary liability in fast-moving environments like AI and the Metaverse.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree and bar admission in at least one state
• 5+ years of relevant legal experience in-house or at a law firm
• Subject matter expertise in IP including copyright, fair use, trademark, rights of publicity, and IP licensing
• Subject matter expertise in global intermediary liability issues and laws (DMCA, CDA, EU Copyright Directive, DSA)
• Experience with AI, direct and secondary liability, and new IP laws affecting technologies
• Experience counseling on IP issues relating to new technologies and products
• Ability to assess legal and business risks and provide actionable guidance to stakeholders
• Strong cross-functional collaboration with product, engineering, policy, operations and legal teams

Responsibilities

• Evaluate products and features to provide practical IP risk guidance
• Advise on liability from copyright, trademark, and other IP laws (e.g., DMCA, CDA, EU directives, DSA)
• Support AI product and Metaverse IP issues across Reality Labs, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp and Messenger
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, policy, operations and other teams
• Work with a global network of outside counsel on IP matters
