Job summary

Meta seeks an attorney with deep experience in online intellectual property to serve as Associate General Counsel, IP Product. You will advise on IP matters across Meta’s apps and services, including AI, Reality Labs, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, and Messenger, guiding product teams through new technologies.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree and bar admission in at least one state.
• IP law expertise across copyright, trademark, rights of publicity, and licensing.
• Global intermediary liability knowledge (DMCA, CDA, EU Copyright Directive, DSA).
• Experience counseling on IP issues related to new technologies (AI, Metaverse).
• Ability to assess legal/practical/business risks and provide clear guidance.

Responsibilities

• Counsel and collaborate with legal, product, engineering, policy, and operations teams.

Job description

Meta seeks an attorney with deep experience in online intellectual property issues to serve as Associate General Counsel, IP Product.

In this role, you will tackle cutting‑edge IP issues on a global scale across Meta’s family of apps, products, and services, including AI, Reality Labs, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, and Messenger. You will be at the forefront of IP law and working on novel issues at the intersection of law and technology. These include development of Meta’s AI products and the Metaverse, as well as continued expansion of product offerings across our platforms.

This role will involve counseling and working closely with legal colleagues, as well as product, engineering, policy, operations, and other business teams. • J.D. degree and membership in good standing in at least one state bar5+ years of relevant legal experience, either in-house or at a law firm
• Subject matter expertise in IP and related areas, including copyright and fair use, trademark, rights of publicity, and intellectual property licensing
• Subject matter expertise in global intermediary liability issues and laws, including DMCA, CDA, EU Copyright Directive, and DSA
• Experience with the evolving global IP regulatory landscape, including legal developments involving AI, direct and secondary liability, and other new IP laws
• Experience counseling on IP issues relating to new technologies
• Demonstrated ability to assess legal, practical, and business risks and provide clear, actionable guidance to stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to operate proactively, collaborate, and build cross-functional relationships with legal and business partners
• Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
• Experience advising on IP issues in the technology or social media industry
• Experience managing relationships with outside counsel across multiple jurisdictions
• Familiarity with Meta's products and services, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Reality Labs
• Experience working with cross‑functional teams to deliver legal guidance on time‑sensitive product launches
• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
