Job summary

Alcon seeks an IP Counsel to support its Legal and Compliance team in Fort Worth, TX. You will manage invention disclosures, prosecute patent applications, and oversee global patent portfolios for medical devices and manufacturing technologies.

The role requires a JD, US bar admission, and 4–7 years of patent law experience. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, advise on IP strategy, and participate in negotiations and due diligence.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school with strong academic performance.
• Admission to at least one US state bar and USPTO registration.
• 4–7 years' experience practicing patent law at a reputable law firm.
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of directly related experience as a baseline.
• Excellent communication and business‑oriented legal advisory skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage invention disclosures, interviews, and patent committee reviews.
• Prepare, prosecute, and manage a global patent portfolio with USPTO filings.
• Conduct due diligence and freedom-to-operate assessments for products.
• Assess competitor IP portfolios and strategic implications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and counsel clients on IP issues.
• Draft, negotiate, and review IP-related agreements and licenses.
• Support IP litigation and administrative proceedings and trainings.
