Job summary

HyperStrong seeks an experienced Director, Global Fire Safety Engineering & Codes to lead fire safety strategy for utility-scale BESS worldwide. You will serve as the SME, guiding product engineering, regulatory compliance, and project execution across regions.

In this remote/hybrid role, you will collaborate with China-based R&D, third‑party labs, and AHJs, translate codes into design requirements, oversee testing programs, and support sales teams with permitting and technical responses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 7 years in fire protection engineering, including at least 3 years with lithium‑ion battery energy storage projects or products.
• Strong working knowledge of major BESS fire safety standards, including NFPA 855 and UL 9540A, or IEC 62933-5-2 and IEC 62619.
• Demonstrated hands‑on experience preparing HMAs or fire protection reports and obtaining AHJ approvals for BESS projects.
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally 30–40% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a global fire safety compliance framework across key international markets.
• Monitor evolving regulatory requirements and industry standards to support compliance and market readiness.
• Lead technical discussions with AHJs, fire marshals, and fire departments for permitting and approvals.
• Translate global fire codes into actionable product design and engineering requirements.
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee large-scale fire testing programs with third‑party labs.
• Support bid preparation and provide expert guidance in customer meetings on BESS fire safety and regulatory compliance.
