Job summary

Coinbase is seeking an Employment Counsel to support global HR compliance and employment-law counseling. You will manage performance management, disciplinaries, and exits, and advise on international matters across 20+ countries. The role covers employment agreements, AI tool deployments, and coordination with outside counsel for litigation.

Requirements include a J.D. with active U.S. bar and 5+ years of in-house or equivalent employment law experience.

Qualifications

• J.D. with active U.S. state bar membership and 5+ years of employment law experience, including meaningful in-house experience advising HR business partners on the full range of employment matters.
• Strong U.S. advice-and-counsel experience across performance management, terminations, accommodations and leaves.
• Hands-on experience with employment litigation and administrative charges, including position statements and discovery.
• Working knowledge of U.S. HR compliance requirements (EEO-1, OFCCP, pay equity) and awareness of AI regulatory issues.
• Experience using generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Own a people relations counseling portfolio, providing first-line legal support on performance management, disciplinary processes, accommodations, policy questions, and exits.
• Advise on international employment matters across a 20+ country footprint, partnering with outside local counsel and HR.
• Support employment agreement workflows, including offer letters, separation letters, transfer letters, and relocation agreements.
• Drive compliance support for AI tool deployments in recruiting and HR, reviewing against the company's AI employment law framework.
• Partner with HR on EEO-1 reporting, OFCCP obligations, and pay equity compliance.
• Support employment litigation and administrative proceedings, including EEOC statements and discovery.
• Track employment law developments and translate them into practical HR guidance.
