Job summary

TikTok is seeking an E-Commerce Privacy Counsel in San Jose to lead privacy and data protection efforts for the e-commerce business. You will monitor global developments, guide cross-functional teams, and advise on cross-border transfers and vendor arrangements.

Responsibilities include policy development, privacy impact reviews, and coordinating with local and global counsel to ensure compliant product launches and data handling across markets.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from ABA-accredited law school.
• Active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar.
• Extensive privacy-related legal experience.
• In-depth knowledge of U.S. privacy laws and federal/state frameworks.
• Experience advising multinational businesses on privacy matters.
• Strong communication and ability to translate legal concepts for business teams.
• Preferred: private practice and in-house experience.
• Privacy certifications (CIPP or equivalent).
• Familiarity with privacy laws across AMS region including LGPD and Mexican law.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, analyze, and advise on global privacy laws affecting TikTok's e-commerce business.
• Review products and features for privacy compliance.
• Advise on data collection, use, retention, sharing, and cross-border transfers.
• Assess vendor onboarding and data-sharing agreements.
• Support privacy impact assessments and controls implementation.
• Drive global privacy strategy with cross-region coordination.
• Develop internal and external privacy policies and notices.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to implement privacy controls across the business.
