Job summary

TikTok is seeking an E-Commerce Privacy Counsel in Seattle to lead global privacy work for our e-commerce operations. This on-site role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and oversight of regulatory developments affecting data protection and product compliance.

The candidate will advise on data collection, sharing, and transfers, and drive privacy governance across markets, leveraging deep U.S. privacy knowledge and potential certifications.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
• Extensive years of privacy-related legal experience.
• In-depth knowledge of U.S. privacy and data protection laws, including state and federal frameworks.
• Experience advising multinational businesses on privacy matters.
• Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to translate complex concepts for business teams.
• Preferred: CIPP or similar privacy certification.

Responsibilities

• Actively monitor, analyze, and advise on global privacy and data protection laws relevant to TikTok's e-commerce business.
• Review new products and features to identify privacy requirements and guide compliance with TikTok policies.
• Advise on data collection, use, sharing, retention, and cross-border transfer of data.
• Assess and advise on data sharing arrangements, including vendor onboarding and cross-border transfers.
• Support privacy impact reviews and implementation of privacy controls.
• Drive global privacy strategy for the e-commerce business across markets.
• Develop and update internal and external privacy policies, notices, and governance processes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to implement privacy policies and controls.
