Job summary

AbbVie seeks a Director of Utilities & Electrical to lead global electrical power systems, clean/black utilities, and energy infrastructure across its manufacturing network. You will drive standards, governance, project risk management and strategic capital investments with a global team of experts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field; master’s degree or relevant professional qualification preferred.
• Typically 15+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, utilities engineering, manufacturing engineering, capital projects or technical operations with significant leadership responsibility.
• Extensive experience in pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, API, peptide, biologics, sterile or similarly regulated manufacturing environments.
• Demonstrated experience leading electrical and utilities engineering scope for major brownfield and greenfield capital investments.
• Proven ability to govern EPCM firms, design partners, equipment vendors, utilities specialists and external partners in a global matrix.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical decision-making for medium- and low-voltage power distribution, substations, transformers, switchgear and motor-control systems.
• Provide governance for electrical safety, arc-flash risk, hazardous-area interfaces, protection coordination and system studies.
• Direct strategies for clean utilities (water systems, steam, gases) and black utilities (steam, cooling, compressed air, nitrogen, wastewater).
• Set expectations for system capacity, redundancy, resilience, reliability and lifecycle strategies; ensure site handover readiness.
• Partner with Strategic Investments, operations, quality, EHS and other functions to deliver robust, scalable engineering solutions.
• Lead cross-functional and enterprise leadership efforts to align with manufacturing strategy and regulatory expectations.
