Job summary

The D. E. Shaw group is seeking a driven data specialist to join its Firmwide Data team in New York.

You will manage the full data life cycle across sourcing, vendor relationships, and compliance coordination, contributing to impactful projects across technology, investment, and infrastructure. You will identify relevant data sources, advise investment professionals, negotiate terms with vendors, and maintain accurate records while ensuring audit readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 1–4 years’ experience in data management, finance, or operations.
• Curiosity about how data informs investment and research processes; willingness to learn technical concepts.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills for recurring tasks.
• Proven work ethic, follow-through, and ownership.
• Ability to collaborate with diverse internal stakeholders and communicate clearly.
• Professionalism and sound judgment when working with external vendors.
• Interest in technical infrastructure supporting data management.
• Familiarity with financial markets, research environments, or publicly traded data companies is a plus.
• Experience with legal, compliance, audit, procurement, or vendor-management workflows is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Manage workflows across the data life cycle including sourcing, legal coordination, and vendor management.
• Identify data sources that support business goals and advise investment professionals.
• Negotiate commercial terms while maintaining vendor relationships.
• Coordinate with legal and compliance on timely, compliant data access.
• Maintain records of subscriptions, entitlements, contracts, and vendor interactions.
• Analyze data usage and costs to optimize subscriptions and renewals.
• Maintain audit readiness and coordinate audits.
• Collaborate with regions and functions to resolve data issues and set priorities.
