Job summary

ByteDance is seeking a data center mechanical engineer focused on Americas regional projects. You will participate in site selection, MEP design, and testing for new data center builds and data hall fit outs, ensuring capacity planning and reliability.

The role requires deep knowledge of power/cooling design, redundancy (2N/N+1), and experience with data center commissioning. Travel up to six times annually is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Knowledge of power and cooling designs to meet capacity needs.
• Understanding 2N or N+1 redundancy and related standards (TIA-942, ASHRAE).
• Experience with cooling redundancy and concurrent maintainability (N+1 / N+2).
• Lead or influence engineering/design teams through data center project phases and testing.
• Mechanical/electrical engineering experience (generators, chillers, UPS, etc.).
• Liquid cooling for IT systems and strong communication skills.
• Familiar with CFD, PUE calculations, commissioning, and availability analysis.
• 4+ years in data center engineering.

Responsibilities

• Review data center site selection and contractual evaluations, design solutions, and support construction to acceptance.
• Review Data Center MEP design and create data hall layout plans and test fits for capacity validation.
• Participate in testing and commissioning discussions to determine required tests.
• Support FM team to become subject matter expert and address design risks.
• Conduct periodic audits to assess the effectiveness of designs in active data centers.
• Explain data center infrastructure designs to visitors and seek collaboration for improvements.
• International travel up to 6 times per year; must have passport and visa ability.
