Job summary

Northern Trust, a Fortune 500 financial services firm, seeks a Head of Global Compensation Programs and Operations to lead the design, governance, and execution of global compensation programs. The role focuses on base pay, variable pay, equity, benchmarking, and policy development at a global scale.

The position requires 10+ years of compensation leadership experience, advanced Excel proficiency, and strong stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field or equivalent experience.
10+ years of progressive compensation experience partnering with senior leadership/executives.
Experience in job evaluation, job architecture, market pricing, benchmarking, salary structure design and development, pay for performance, incentive plans, and equity administration.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to develop creative solutions for global compensation issues.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
Advanced proficiency in Excel and HR systems including Workday.

Responsibilities

Lead the governance, administration, and communication of global compensation programs and services.
Oversee the annual compensation cycles, data management, audits, and approvals.
Advise leaders on compensation policies and best practices; provide training and guidance.
Develop educational materials, tools, and training modules to improve understanding of compensation programs.
Own compensation survey submissions and salary range reviews, including benchmarking analysis.
Collaborate with HR Technology on Total Rewards systems and data integrity.
Support audits and legal/regulatory compliance related to compensation programs.
Make staffing decisions and manage expenses and salary review processes.
