Business Development Director – US Defense Sector

Defense Sector Experience and a DoD Security Clearance is Required for this position. We seek a seasoned Business Development Director specializing in the U.S. Defense Sector to join our global team. This role will be based in the U.S., aligning with Ericsson’s strategic focus on expanding its presence in the North American market.

What You Will Do
  1. US Innovation Focus: Collaborate with Ericsson US local teams towards innovation within the U.S. Defense sector's mobile communications ecosystem, aligning strategies with Ericsson's goals to develop and deploy leading-edge solutions in support of the DoD's FutureG plans.
  2. Strategic Initiatives: Oversee the execution of strategic initiatives aimed at removing barriers, and strengthening partnerships, and will boost US Defense sector mobile communications innovation.
  3. Market Engagement: Engage with senior executives across industries to position Ericsson as a leader in MCN innovation, aligning offerings with strategic goals and driving industry forum participation.
  4. Cross-Functional Coordination: Lead cross-functional teams working on high-impact market and business development programs, mentoring junior team members to build organizational capability in business development in the defense area.
  5. Performance Oversight: Ensure that market development initiatives are well-documented, tracked against agreed-upon milestones, and lead to quantifiable results for Ericsson.
The position requires
  • Deep understanding of the following in relation to the critical communications market:
  • Familiarity with the industry, understanding economics, dynamics, regulations and ecosystem.
  • Business development and procurement process with Government and public agencies in charge of Defense communications services.
  • End-users operational requirements and ways of working, including specific requirements and models for delivery, support and operating practices.
  • Understanding the implementation of complex technology solutions in the defense communications area, mapping operational requirements to technical execution.
  • Business models & total cost of ownership cycles over long lifecycle periods.

  • Bachelor’s in engineering (or similar degree) with solid understanding of mobile communications market.
  • Experience in Defense market: at least 10 years working in related positions and well-accepted in the market.

  • Perseverance: Navigating long-sales cycles with resiliency and self-confidence, while continue pushing avoiding frustration.

  • Strong analytical skills: perform regular market analysis, define and keep updated business strategy accordingly with clear targets, guidelines and priorities.
  • Teammate, collaborative and integrity: used to work in multinational and diverse environments, communicating with empathy and facilitating everyone to perform at their best. Lead the change by aligning together all Ericsson arrows as well as customer view.
  • Experience: At least 10 years of experience in US Defense sector business development, government procurement, or critical communications, with a demonstrated ability to drive large-scale initiatives and programs.
  • Strategic Vision: Proven ability to create and execute strategies that align with Ericsson’s long-term goals and influence industry standards and a deep knowledge to boost US Defense sector mobile communications innovation.
