Job summary

Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities is hiring an entry‑level Geographic Information Systems Technician I to support GIS data, maps, and analysis under supervision. You’ll manage GIS databases, create and edit spatial data, and assist survey teams while supporting mobile devices and MDM processes.

The role emphasizes data quality, CAD/GPS data integration, and producing maps and reports for staff and the public.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalency with coursework in trigonometry/algebra and three years of experience in CAD, GIS, surveying, or data entry.
• Two years post-high school training in civil engineering, computer science, GIS, surveying, or related field may substitute for two years of work experience.
• Ability to operate computers with basic familiarity with AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
• Familiarity with basic surveying methods and techniques.

Responsibilities

• Collect, create, and maintain the department’s GIS data and maps.
• Perform data research, investigation, and verification.
• Assist with technical problem solving and identifying solutions.
• Conduct QA of data prepared for GIS entry and ensure data integrity.
