Job summary

Salt Lake City Corporation's Public Utilities Department is seeking an entry-level Geographic Information Systems Technician I to support GIS data, maps, and infrastructure records. You will manage spatial data from CAD, GPS, and historical sources, perform basic analyses, and prepare maps for staff and public access.

This full-time role requires high school diploma with GIS coursework or equivalent plus related experience; you will also oversee mobile devices, training, and billing

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalency with coursework in trigonometry and/or algebra plus GIS-related experience.
• Two years post-high school training in civil engineering, GIS, surveying, or a related field may substitute for two years of work experience.
• Ability to operate computers with basic familiarity in AutoCAD and ArcGIS; understand surveying methods.

Responsibilities

• Collects, creates, compiles, maintains, and updates the department’s GIS data.
• Creates, manipulates, and edits SLCDPU spatial data from CAD drawings, GPS data, and historical maps.
• Performs intermediate GIS analysis to produce maps and reports.
• Assesses infrastructure data and integrates new data into GIS.
• Prepares digital, online, and hard copy maps for staff, partners, and the public.
• Conducts quality control to ensure data integrity and GPS input accuracy.
• Performs other duties as required.

Education
