Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking a GIS Intern in Minneapolis, MN. The successful candidate will assist in legal description mapping, data creation and preparation for utility features, suitability modeling and site location analysis, along with database maintenance.

Position starts May 24, 2027 with potential extension based on performance. Hybrid work location in Minneapolis with the option to work in-office and remotely as per policy.

Qualifications

• Current student enrolled in Geography, GIS, or Geospatial Science.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week).
• Experience producing maps with ArcGIS and Adobe Illustrator is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create, prepare and maintain GIS layers, applications and data sets for various projects.
• Translate legal land descriptions and PLSS data to cartographic representations.
• Work with GIS team to develop data standards, program goals and maintenance procedures.
• Create exhibits and landowners lists for project teams.
