Job summary

LEXINGTON in Lexington, NC is seeking a GIS Intern to perform entry-level support for GIS projects within the Utilities Services Admin Department. Under supervision, you will assist with data collection, mapping, and analysis tasks to gain hands-on experience in municipal GIS applications.

The position is designed for students: high school graduate, currently enrolled in a GIS or related program, and valid NC driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED.
• Enrolled in accredited college/university program in geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or related program.
• Valid NC driver’s license or valid out-of-state license with ability to obtain NC license within 60 days and good driving record.

Job description

The GIS Intern performs entry-level work supporting the department’s Geographic Information System (GIS) projects and services. This position is designed to provide hands‑on experience to individuals interested in GIS careers. Under supervision, the intern assists with data collection, mapping, and analysis tasks and gains exposure to real-world municipal GIS applications for the Utilities Services Admin Department .

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED
• Enrolled in an accredited college/university program or recently completed a degree or certificate program in geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or related program
• Valid NC driver’s license or valid out-of-state driver’s license with the ability to obtain a valid NC driver’s license within sixty days of employment and good driving record

Work Schedule

Monday - Thursday 9:00am to 3:00pm, up to 29 hours per week.

May work outside and on uneven terrain

Paid bi-weekly.
